Here we are back to the third and penultimate episode of ROAD TO MODERN, the series of articles of Alchemist's Refuge in the preparation stage of May 4, the Italian Magic Tour in Rome (as usual at the bottom preparation olives of the link to the facebook page of the event).
Today we want to analyze, instead all those bunches that are classified as tier 1.5, or decks that are nearly as powerful as the tier 1 but less popular (for various reasons). Premise that the category is quite vast and analyze it completely with a minimum of care is not possible. So we decided, as a compromise, to analyze those three archetypes most popular destination in.
Let's start with what it has been for a long time the real King of format and we see today remodeled after the blows received by the mighty Banhammer. We speak of course of Jund, the archetype that best represents the midrange strategy in Magic. Let's see now a list and as this bunch, given up for dead after the Ban of Deathrite Shaman was able to get back on top and still succeed at high levels.
The list is from the pt Valencia and has not evolved too, probably the greatest change is the increase in the number of copies of Liliana of the Veil at the expense of the Anger of the Gods, again because of the slow decline of Zoo in goal.
The core of the cluster is then always there with the package scartini, and Dark Confidant preparation olives Tarmogoyf, the removal and precisely its 4/3 Liliana. Last added to the deck are the bucks of BNG, Courser of Kruphix good cards that have the flavor of the old Kitchen Finks, with the addition of a sit more consistent (four in the constitution), and especially the ability to take off from the top of our deck ( real addiction to jund) the fastidiossime or useful land. Chandra Pyromaster is an addition that fits well with the Courser and which has the advantage of killing a plethora of creatures in modern thanks to its first ability.
The strength of the pack is very simple: on the one hand very powerful individual cards like Tarmogoyf, Dark Confidant, Scavenging Ooze, Liliana preparation olives of the Veil and the other a series of efficient removal and scartini to attack viciously strategy is dell'oppo to grow in his hand (control-combo decks) is that developments on the battlefield (aggro-combo). The alchemy of these two souls allows Jund to be as classic deck 50/50. What does it mean? The deck has never superfavorito against an archetype nor supersfavorito (except some rare cases) against others.
This characteristic made him the perfect tournament pack huge (PTQ, gp, pt) because it allowed in expert hands to deal with the different shifts without excessive worries of mind. Made because after the two ban, Jund has lost some 'power preparation olives and explosiveness, worsening some match-up a bit' uglier and weaker in the match-up better.
The bunch is none the less a force of size and a good choice for the next IMT. Above all, we will never tire of saying, if you are experienced in the deck. Jund may seem simple in appearance (game animals, destroy things, preparation olives waste people), but it actually has a hidden complexity in which every single game (sometimes also what land fetchare) can bring us so much as to ruin the glory.
In the current meta, counting that a good portion occupied by Twin, Affinity and Pod, the deck suffers just the last two but it is just above the first. Affinity in particular is a bad match-up (not bad) at least pre-side, but with a side with the right cards (Ancient Grudge and Shatterstorm) G2 definitely become preparation olives easier. But to this it must be added that the deck is particularly effective against clusters little known that almost certainly preparation olives will during the tournament, being able to fight on almost equal (except Gr Tron. Pray for those who do not want to see him ever). AMERICA, EXPORTING DEMOCRACY
The deck is considered the only true example of the deck "control" of the format. The deck is a set of efficient removal (to recycle with the Snapcaster Mage), Counterspell and benefit cards. As in the best traditions, the finisher is Kiku and (Celestial Colonnade, Ajani Vengeant and various shots) and to use the board when it is in our hands. Now the fatal flaw of the bunch is the general problem of control in modern: having few answers to the many threats meta often our strategy control in a very big tournament and unknown is likely to fail in the least. Why sometimes players prefer the version midrange, or more proactive, with more threats and less answers. An example: preparation olives
This deck is a good choice for IMT? It 'a difficult question. We can recommend the midrange version, in a goal so open, so as not to find
